40 Days, 40 Liqueurs - Day 16: Nocino

Nocino or Walnut Liqueurs have a long tradition in Italy and are made by seeping green walnuts in liqueur and adding sugar. The spirit is dark and think with a taste of walnut and sweet (go figure, right?).

Many families make nocino at home but the commercial versions, like Nux Alpina Walnut Liqueur, is 40% alcohol.

Unique Facts:

  • Nocino is also made in New Zealand under a product called NutZino.
  • This liqueur plays a role in the feast of John the Baptist
  • It was said go originate from the Celts.

Cocktails:

  • Raincoat is from the Absinthe bar in San Francisco – Nocino, Bourbon and Almond Syrup make this delicious treat.
  • A twist on the Nocino Manhattan is Noncino, Rye, Sweet Vermouth and bitters. Yum!
  • Firebird is from Gaz Regan and is Whiskey, lemon juice, apricot liqueur, Noncino, simple syrup, bitters and IPA.

How I Enjoy The Nocino Manhattan is a wonderful different treat and I have had a few that are very tasty.  Budmo!
