It’s about this time of year that I remember that I have a blog and vow to add more content to it. For 2017, I’ll again make that promise but temper it with some of the learnings from 2016. What did I do this last year? Quite a bit. Here are a list of accomplishments […]
Prosecco is highly underrated in the US because most of us think it has to be sweet. Our brains have been wired to think of the wine from our limit experiences of what we bought in the grocery store during college. There is so much more diversity and deliciousness to the beverage. It is some […]

Happy Star Wars Week! I thought it would be nifty to make light saber themed cocktails. Based on the Star Wars song, Duel of the Fates, I mixed up two variations on the Moscow Mule called Mule with my Mates. Mule with my Mates #1 (Mexican Mule): – 1.5 oz good Tequila (100% agave and […]
This week is the release of Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. I put together a few posts to build off the spirit and buzz of the event. In my Buzzfeediest post ever, I present ten of the Main Characters if they were Detroit cocktails. #1 Luke Skywalker as Myth & Medicine from Selden […]
It was the pleasure to go to the Press Day at Michigan By The Bottle’s newest location in Royal Oak (29932 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak, MI 48073). The place is a fantastic partnership with Michigan wineries to have tasting locations closer to the major population hubs. The original location is in Shelby Township but new […]
Metro Detroit bars and restaurants its time catch-up. Your customers savviness is out pacing your innovation. There have been too many times I have ordered a drink and gotten a BS reply on why it can’t be made. Let’s back up a second. I do my best to not be a booze snob. I like […]
Vodka is a great ingredient for mixing up cocktails. That’s a fighting statement with some craft cocktail joints. My defense of that is it offers a great platform for new mixologists to get there feet wet with creating cocktails but it also takes a skilled hand to bring out the nuances in particular brands and […]
Vermouths of the world are just a wine infused with spices and fortified with high-proof booze. I’ve was interested in trying my own ever since I came across this post by Serious Eats Drinks blog. There are some out there spices you need (like Wormwood Leaf) which I get online. Try Dandelion Botanical Co for online […]
For my grown-up job, I work with a lot of ad agencies. One of them that I have worked with for years is Lowe Campbell Ewald. Up until recently it was just Campbell Ewald until they partnered up with London based firm (within their parent company) called Lowe. This sparked a new logo and a […]
Happy New Year everyone! I took a bit of a break for the holidays but am back to the blogging. South Eastern Michigan is under about 6″ of snow so a lot of us are home from work. I thought it would be a perfect time to share some hot cocktails to warm you up. […]
Is Captain Morgan’s only Rum I ever drink? Of course not. Do I really like their marketing? Yes. We’ve all see the commercial series where the prisoner is being broken out of the jail cell to help the Captain find the buried treasure. What I didn’t know is that there are long forms of […]
You might thing that the term Mixologist is a new one with bartender being the classic from “back in the day”. Well, you would be wrong. The term dates back to the creator of the cocktail, Jerry Thomas in the late 1800s. Check out this article on Serious Eats to find out more about […]
This project has been making the rounds on the Internet and combines two of my favorite things; obscure musical instruments and booze. Check out the link & video here. Budmo!
During the Garage Sale Trail, I also picked up a spoon rack for displaying your decorative spoons. I figured it would also work for my vintage stirrers and for the most part it does. There are a few stirrers are too small to fit in the slot. However, over all, I am quite happy. Budmo!
The Bourbon Review posted a list of the 55 Best Bourbon Bars in the U.S.. Not surprisingly, they didn’t mention one in Michigan. Is there a bar that actively promotes they are a bourbon bar in MI? Not really. But can you still find some great bourbon here, absolutely. Most notably the three following have […]
Do you ever wonder where all the made-up consumer brands come from in movies? Do you ever see the same fake brands over and over? It turns out that there is a company called Independent Studio Services that makes fake products for Film and TV. The the thing that grabbed my attention was the […]
This might not be real but I want it to be. Please point me to the local Maker’s Mark Vending Machine. Budmo!
