Tonight’s Cocktail (9/4/12): D.I.Y. Gin & Tonic

Gin and Tonic was one of my first loves. We still share good times even though I have greatly broadened my cocktail horizons. I’ve tried many different types of tonic but never made my own. That changed Monday night. I’ll be posting the article tomorrow on how to make your own tonic at home. I think it is worth the effort just to see what goes into your body.

I used Jeffery Morgenthaler’s recipe and he recommends the below cocktail to test your first batch:

  • 1.5 oz of Gin
  • 3/4 oz of Tonic Syrup
  • 2 oz of Soda Water
  • Garnish with Lime

Taste: This is a very flavorful and fresh cocktail. The citrus really shines through but it is too sweet for me. I would cut back the Agave Syrup.

Prep: Yeah, this is a beast. The tonic syrup really is an over night process. That being said, the actual mixing of the cocktail is very straight forward.

Sourcing: Nothing here is hard to get except for the Cinchona Bark for the syrup. I have some sources for that in tomorrow’s DIY article.
