Video: How to Make a Mint Julep

The Mint Julep is the perfect cocktail for Summer days and is enjoyed around the US especially with horse racing.

The Mint Julep

  • 3 oz Bourbon
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 6-8 Mint Leaves
  • More Mint for Garnish
  • Crushed or Bullet Ice

Muddle mint leaves and simple syrup in the bottom of a Collin’s or Julep Cup

Add a scoop of ice and 1 oz of bourbon then stir. Add another scoop of ice and 1 oz bourbon and stir again.

Top with final scoop of ice, one more ounce of bourbon, garnish with spring of mint and a short straw. You want the straw to be just higher than the garnish so your nose gets a big hit of mint smell when you drink.

Crush your own ice with a mallet and Lewis bag, buy a bag from Sonic (seriously, just ask them) or buy your own machine from FirstBuild.

Nick
