Gin Rocket

There are many ways to make cocktails green some of them are spirits based and some are based on non-alcoholic ingredients. Using vegetables is a fun way to sneak a teeny tiny bit of nutrition in those drinks and be creative. I love what Maggie Hoffman did in her One-Bottle Cocktail book. HEre is the Gin Rocket. Very tasty.

Maggie Hoffman’s Gin Rocket
(shared with permission from One-Bottle Cocktail book – 2018)
– 1 fennel bulb with fronds
– 1/4 cup packed arugula leaves
– 3/4 ounces fresh lime juice
– 3/4 ounce 1:1 simple syrup
– 2 ounces of good gin (I used Death’s Door Gin)
– Garnish: lime wheel or arugula leaf
Using a mandolin or vegetable peeler, thinly slice enough of the fennel bulb to yielded 1/4 cup. Add a pinch of the fennel fronds to a cocktail shaker along with sliced fennel and arugula leaves. Add lime juice and simple syrup and muddle until the fennel is bruised. Add gin and fill with ice. Shake vigorously until chilled, about 12 seconds. Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with lime wheel or arugula leaf.
Straight Spirits to Sip
Straight Spirits - Nick Drinks Blog

We are spoiled with the amount of straight spirits that are available to sip on these days, even in Michigan. On St. Patrick’s Day, Motor City Gas is releasing their 2018 Barley Legal. A bold Irish Whiskey with lots of kick.

Also check out some of my favorite products from overseas such as; Writer’s Tears, Redbreast and Green Spot.

Recently brands have been getting more experimental. Jameson released their IPA Edition and Tullamore DEW released a Caribbean Cask. It is a great time to be alive.

Drinking on the Town

Nearly every bar in the US will do some sort of event for St. Patrick’s Day. Here are a few I was alerted to and might be worth your time.
