Planning for a wedding is trying work and builds up a good thirst. We organized all the addresses tonight so we can send out the save the date. With that done, it was time for a sip.
I was introduced to Bonal by David at Cafe Muse in Royal Oak, MI. It has one of the main herbs in Tonic water the imparts the quinine. The drink I selected was based on my new score of Acid Phosphate. This is used for a neutral sour flavor. Add some bitters and you have a Riding Club. I found the recipe from Jeff William’s site in which he is trying to sample every drink in Jigger, Beaker & Glass cocktail book.
Taste: The Bonal really dominates this but the nice bitter and sour undertones make for a unique drink.
Sourcing: Bonal is a bit tricky to find. Only a few places carry the Acid Phosphate but any good aromatic bitters can be used for this drink.
Prep: Couple drops in ice and a jigger of booze. Not much easier than this.
